Every school order is really four orders
Talk to enough school coordinators and the same four hoodie jobs come up on repeat. The year-group hoodie, worn like a second uniform. The sports house or rep-team hoodie, in house colours over the PE kit. The camp and excursion hoodie, bought once, worn for a week straight, kept for years. And the staff hoodie, which the front office swears is just for casual Friday and then wears daily through winter.
We build all four from the same process: your colours matched exactly, your crest reproduced properly, youth through adult 5XL in one order, from 10 units. One supplier, one invoice, one approval chain. If you already know which job you are here for, start the quote; the rest of this page covers what the organised schools ask before they do.

Built for the school-wear torture test
School hoodies live a harder life than almost any garment we make. Worn daily, washed constantly, stuffed into bags, dragged across asphalt. Two construction choices deal with that reality.
The 380gsm heavyweight cotton fleece line is the school classic: a thick, warm, substantial hoodie that keeps its shape and colour wash after wash, with ribbed cuffs and hems that still grip at the end of the year. It takes an embroidered crest beautifully, which is why it is the default for uniform-adjacent gear. The full story of the fabric is in the heavyweight hoodie page.
The sublimated polyester line, 280 to 350 GSM, is the pick when the design matters as much as the garment: house colours that fade into each other, a mural of the school's history across the back, or a camp design the students voted on. The design is dyed into the fabric itself, so there is no print sitting on the surface to crack or peel, no matter what Year 8 does to it. Cheap heat-pressed prints failing at the chest and shoulders within a term is exactly the failure this method exists to prevent.
The approval process, designed for schools
Schools do not buy like individuals, and the process here respects that. Everything is written down, everything is approvable by email, and nothing proceeds without sign-off.
- Quote: itemised and all-inclusive, addressed to the school, within 2 hours during business hours. Design, unlimited revisions after ordering, logos, names and every setup cost are already in the number.
- Design proof: within 1 to 2 business days of the order. The proof shows exact placements, colours and wording, in a format a principal, P&C or uniform committee can approve.
- Revisions: unlimited until approval. New motto wording, a crest resize, a third house colourway, all part of the service.
- Production and delivery: 3 to 4 weeks from approval, tracked to the school office.
The one thing we ask schools to bring: a single nominated approver. The projects that drag are never slowed by production; they are slowed by a proof doing laps of a staff mailing list. Our ordering timeline guide shows how decision speed changes the calendar.

Sizing a whole school without the chaos
Collecting sizes from three hundred students is the part coordinators dread, so we made it boring. You get a sizing guide to circulate, a collection template that matches names to sizes, and a sanity check at our end: before production we compare your spread against similar school orders and flag anything odd, like a Year 4 cohort ordering entirely adult mediums. Growing students are real, so for year-group gear we suggest sizing with room to grow, and for camps we suggest sizing to fit now. The detail lives in the group sizing guide, and a top-up order for new enrolments is always available later because your specs stay on file.
What it costs, and why the quote is clean
Published price lists do not work for school gear because quantity, fabric line and decoration change the number materially. What we can promise is the shape of the quote: one figure per unit with everything included, quantity breaks at 25, 50, 100 and 200 plus, and zero additions for logos, names, setup, artwork or digitising. When the P&C asks "what else will they charge us", the honest answer is nothing. For the full breakdown of what drives custom hoodie pricing, the cost guide walks through every factor.
Year 12 gear is its own world, with its own calendar and its own politics, so it has its own page: Year 12 leavers hoodies. Primary schools finishing Year 6 are covered too: Year 6 leavers hoodies.

Beyond the year group: where school hoodie orders actually come from
The variety inside one school surprises people who have only bought the standard year-level hoodie. Music departments order tour hoodies for band camp and eisteddfod season, usually 15 to 40 units with instrument or ensemble names on the sleeve. Sport coordinators order rep-team gear mid-season when a squad qualifies for state, which is where the 3 to 4 week window saves the day. Wellbeing teams order house hoodies to make inter-house competition visible in the yard. Chaplaincies and student councils order fundraiser runs where the margin funds the formal. And the P&C orders staff appreciation gear at the end of the year, which is the one order students never find out about until it appears in the staff photo.
Each of these works from 10 units, each can run its own colourway from an approved base design, and each lands on one clean invoice for the office. One quiet advantage of running them through one supplier: the crest artwork only gets set up properly once, then every subsequent order, from the swimming squad to the debating team, reuses it at the same quality. Schools that spread orders across whichever printer answered fastest end up with five subtly different versions of their own emblem, and the assembly photos show it. If several departments are circling separately, tell us: combining them into one production run usually moves everyone into a better quantity band, which is the kind of maths a business manager appreciates.
Who pays is flexible too. Some schools fund gear centrally and on-sell through the uniform shop; others collect from parents up front through their payment portal and place one consolidated order. Both models work with our process, and the all-inclusive per-unit price makes parent communication simple because the number on the note home is the whole number. For parent-paid orders we recommend collecting sizes and payment together, then locking the final list a week before you want production to start.
Proof a school can check
Hundreds of committees, schools and companies have run their gear through this process, and the evidence is public. The gallery shows real orders photographed as they shipped, junior clubs included, and new projects are posted to the VS Wear Instagram, week in and week out. We are also happy to send examples matched to your state and school type with your quote.
